Google formally unveiled Android 13 new features, the most recent version of the most popular smartphone operating system, on August 15, 2022. You should already have the update installed on your Google Pixel 4 or later (including the Pixel 4a and later), at the very least.

Android 13: What is it?
To assist developers in getting their apps ready for the stable release, Google released the first developer preview of Android 13 in February 2022, giving us our first look at the operating system.
In May 2022, Google publicly made the first Android 13 beta available to anyone with the fortitude to install it on their Pixel phone. The company then concentrated on perfecting the final details before the program was released in August 2022.
Like every year, the most recent version of Android was first made available to Pixel phones, but as usual, the manufacturer said goodbye to some of its earlier models. With the earlier updates, devices older than the Pixel 4 and 4a are cut off.
Base Android 13 New Features
1. Especially for you
The upgraded appearance and design of Android 13 are based on Material You. Non-Google apps can be modified to match your phone’s wallpaper theme and colors, giving your home screen a more unified look and more representative of your taste.
A new media player in Android 13 adapts its appearance and feel to the music or podcast you’re listening to. For instance, as you listen to music, the media player highlights album art and has a playback bar that dances as you listen to more of the song. Even media viewed in Chrome is compatible.
2. Maintaining your safety and security.
The days of sharing your whole media library with your apps are long gone. With Android 13, you can limit their access to only the selected images and videos. Android 13 ensures you only receive the alerts you request and lets you manage your notifications. Instead of being able to send notifications by default, the apps you download now require your specific authorization.
3. HDR Support
These and many other enhancements, like braille displays for Talkback, improved media output switcher, HDR video support on third-party camera apps, and more, are all included in Android 13. It also provides a connected set of experiences across your other devices, like tablets, laptops, and phones.
4. Quick Notification
Android has always been superior at managing and showing notifications than iOS. However, there is one aspect of Apple’s ecosystem that we like. Notifications are now opt-in. Applications must first get your consent before sending notifications.
Finally, Android 13 follows suit and requires your permission before allowing an app to send notifications after installation. Since the Android 12 upgrade impacts only newly installed apps, existing functionality is unaffected.
5. QR Scanners
It has already been confirmed that Android 13 will include a fast settings tile for a QR code scanner and some lock screen functionality, which we exclusively reported on. The QR scanner quick settings toggle appeared for the first time in Android 13 DP1, albeit unreachable and greyed out.
This has changed over the beta versions, and the QR code reader is now available as a simple toggle in the stable release. It scans QR codes far more quickly than Google Lens or the camera app because it is designed specifically for that purpose. It even functions on the lock screen when you pull down the notification shade.
- Assistant Gestures
The future of phone interaction may lie in gesture navigation. Nevertheless, many people still favor traditional three-button navigation, whether for accessibility or simply because it’s what they’re used to. Those who choose to can now voluntarily use Assistant by giving the Home button another long press.
7. Low-Energy Audio
The first iteration of Android to properly implement support for Bluetooth Low-Energy Audio is Android 13. The standard is intended to take the place of, or be, a substitute for, traditional Bluetooth audio streaming. It will be necessary for devices to have the proper hardware to provide you with Bluetooth LE Audio streaming, but as new phones, tablets, headphones, and speakers are launched, this will only be a matter of time.

For the first time, the Android 13 New Features with easter egg was made available in the Android 13 beta 3.3. To find the Android version number, go to Android Settings > About phone and tap on it until a clock appears. After that, you must set the clock’s hands to 1:00 PM (also known as 13:00, got it?). This will cause various bubbles in the colors of your wallpaper to appear. Watch the emoji appear as you tap and hold one of these bubbles.
